Recital

Recital 2027

The opportunity to perform in a recital is an exciting, empowering and confidence-building part of the training process. This is where we love to watch our students learn about the theatre, rehearsals and teamwork while they enjoy the opportunity to showcase their skills in a professionally run production.

Recitals are a wonderful way for students to showcase the results of their hard work and for family and friends to join in the pride of their achievement. We love giving all students the chance to perform for their family and friends in this supportive and fun environment and encourage even our youngest and newest performers to be involved.

If there is any reason why your child will not be able to perform at the recital on the dates and times provided in this handbook, please let us know so we can make amendments to the class routines involving them.

General Information (Policies & Procedures)

ONE parent/guardian may check their dancer(s) in. This parent/guardian will receive a wristband at check-in, and will be the ONLY one allowed to receive their dancer at the end of the show(s). NO PARENT/GUARDIAN IS ALLOWED IN THE DRESSING ROOM BEFORE, DURING, OR AFTER THE SHOW(S). As always, the safety of our dance family is our #1 priority.

Please arrive with hair and makeup done and in costume. If your dancer is in multiple dances, please have them ready for their first dance.

When dancers arrive at the recital, they are to be checked in at the dressing room hallway by a parent or guardian. ALL dancers (yes, even teenagers!) must check in and have their name marked off when they arrive at the venue. If your child has any medical conditions that may require attention while in our care, or is carrying any medication, please notify our supervisors when you sign in. All medication (EPI pens, inhalers, etc.) should be clearly labeled and given to our supervisors.

PLEASE do not leave the performance early, as ALL dancers are included in the Finale. We will dismiss all dancers from the dressing room at the conclusion of the Finale. Only the ONE person with the wristband will be allowed to pick up your dancer — this is given at sign-in. You will still NOT be allowed in the dressing rooms; dancers will be brought to you at the check-in/out table.

At the end of the performance, staff will have all belongings and costumes packed up awaiting you, sorted on rolling racks by class. This process takes a few minutes — we appreciate your patience while we confirm every dancer is picked up by their rightful guardian.

Please be considerate of your fellow audience members and treat our dancers with the respect they deserve during their performance. Keep talking to a minimum, limit movement during routines, and clap for all dancers!

  • A clearly labeled bag with extra hairspray, gel, hair elastics, bobby pins, and safety pins
  • Any required medication, packed and clearly labeled with instructions
  • Makeup, dance shoes, tights, socks and dance undergarments — all clearly labeled. Please do NOT leave lipstick with dancers under the age of 10 (red lipstick and costumes do not mix well!)
  • Don’t forget your costumes! Make sure EVERYTHING has your name on it — belongings often get left behind, and labels make it easier for our staff to return lost items
  • For students with multiple costumes we HIGHLY suggest a laundry basket to drop used costumes in — consider labeling it with your child’s name and/or photo
  • FOOD AND DRINK: Absolutely NO food is permitted backstage or in the dressing room. The only thing dancers should have is a water bottle labeled with their name. Bags will be checked on arrival; food or drinks other than water will be sent back
  • Please leave valuables at home — phones, iPods, iPads and laptops are discouraged. The venue and Time to Dance take no responsibility for items lost, damaged or stolen. Electronics will be checked for at check-in and sent back
With consideration for copyright and child-safety laws, if you are photographing or filming your child, please be considerate: do not block the view of others, and never distract or call out to dancers while they are on stage — this is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. Please keep in mind that other families may not want their dancer on social media. We thank you for adhering to these policies and advising your guests to do the same.

Every dancer will receive a program as part of their registration/recital fee. There will be limited merchandise available at a table outside the venue.

Costumes, Hair & Makeup

COSTUMES

Dancers typically perform without underwear beneath costumes, as tights serve hygienic and modesty functions. If preferred, underwear must be skin-colored and not visible beneath the costume

MAKEUP

Foundation, pink blush and silver/gray eyeshadow, mascara/eyeliner (if they’ll let you!) and red lipstick

HAIR

All hair pieces should go on the dancer’s right side.
All hairstyles should include gel and/or hairspray — no flyaway bits please

Class Specific Information

Please see the links below — they will take you to information for your dancer’s class by day and time, including a picture of the costume(s), shoes needed, tights, accessories and more. Please make sure you are looking at the correct day and time! We are updating this information continually to include final details, practice videos & music.

Finale & Dismissal

Every single dancer will be participating in the Finale!

Dancers will wear their recital t-shirt (handed out upon check-in at the recital) with black bottoms (pants, leggings, or shorts — preferably shorts), or they will put their shirt on over their last costume. Following the Finale, staff will have all belongings and costumes packed up awaiting you, sorted on rolling racks by class. This process takes a few minutes — we appreciate your patience while we confirm every dancer is picked up by their rightful guardian. Dancers are dismissed from the dressing room at the conclusion of the Finale. Only the ONE person with the wristband may pick up your dancer — this is given at sign-in. NO PARENTS/GUARDIANS ARE ALLOWED IN THE DRESSING ROOM BEFORE, DURING, OR AFTER THE SHOWS. Dancers will be brought to you at the check-in/out table.
